In his politics which started late 2017, Bobi Wine has relied on key pillars including members of the Mabikke/Mukaku cabal who introduced him to things like political propaganda targeting especially Kizza Besigye and others he found on the scene.
This same group had the likes of Abed Bwanika, Henry Lubowa, Mutema Derrick and others and they even encouraged him to vie for presidency after it emerged the Kyadondo MP seat was too small for him. They mainly wanted to use him to invalidate Besigye and those who had benefited from his 20 years of opposition leadership.
The bitter truth is that the Mukaku group, having been standing and losing elections in favor of Besigye-backed actors since 2001, erroneously believed the veteran singer would be naive and easy for them to manipulate. They anticipated a puppet who they would order on who to front for which MP, mayorship and councillor position.
This became impossible when Kyagulanyi disregarded them and brought in new actors like Rubongoya, Joel Ssenyonyi and others. These shielded him against being manipulated by the Mukaku squad.
In the end, the Mukakus grumbled and walked away. They specialised on bashing him but Kyagulanyi has only kept going and even did unexpectedly well in the 2021 elections without them being in charge of his campaign taskforce.
But who else has he exactly been and continues relying upon to keep soldiering on? Number one is Fred Lumbuye aka Chemical Ali. He is based in Turkey and being out of direct reach and jurisdiction of the Ugandan Junta, Lumbuye can say stuff against almost everyone in Uganda and get away with it. He would be a political prisoner long time, nursing torture wounds, if he had been living in Uganda.
Through him Bobi Wine is able to lie, character-assasinate and cow anyone who stands in his way. This is why Lumbuye, who tells lies most of the time besides being a gun for hire, has taken no prisoners and in the process verbally destroyed the mighty like President Museveni, his son Gen MK, his wife and other children. He hasn’t spared Gen Salim Saleh and the Katikkiro Peter Mayiga plus members of Kabaka’s family.
The motivation is that baby dictator Bobi Wine has to be the best in everything and no one else should attract more publicity in Kampala than him. This is why Magere-instigated Lumbuye will come up with conspiracy theories and fake news against anyone who is popular in the media and not prepared to bow before Bobi Wine.
His victims who he sometimes attacks after being facilitated, have included Semujju Nganda, Erias Lukwago, Mpuuga, Kazibwe Bashir, Abed Bwanika, Kizza Besigye, Peter Mayiga and others. In most cases these are attacked not because of wrongdoing but largely because Lumbuye and Kavule have perceived them as capable of eclipsing Bobi Wine out of his delusional number one position.
Even when he is a crude man of below average intelligence, Bobi Wine needs Lumbuye to keep the propaganda going so that whoever attempts to be an alternative to his political narrative is identified and destroyed real early.
The relationship is symbiotic because Lumbuye too gets the opportunity to attract attention and social media likes which in return attract for him interested hirers within the Ugandan political ecosystem to pay him to promote their view point and cow their adversaries. Simply put, without being able to play on Kyagulanyi’s gullible crowd online, Lumbuye wouldn’t be the effective influencer he is.
In most cases people in Kampala write scripts for him to parrot on set and in return he gets something to sustain himself while duping the Kadamas that he is about broadening the anti-Museveni fight. His Kyagulanyi-derived celebrity status gives him name recognition out of which he ekes a living.
Secondly is SG Rubongoya who does all the paperwork and is valued by allies in the western world who admire the fact Uganda’s next president has a handler who is a graduate of western universities like Harvard. Rubongoya also helps Kyagulanyi to demonstrate that his struggle is national and about the whole Uganda and not just Buganda.
As a person Rubongoya is also mentally smart and also helps Bobi Wine to act as a shock absorber. He is also the man who knows how to come up with accountability when required to answer for the IPOD billions.
He is also the intellectual behind corporate-ish references inside NUP and specifically is the man coiling befitting titles like the Principal, foot soldiers etc. When he is gone, things can’t be the same for Bobi regarding that so-called NUP struggle.
Joel Ssenyonyi doesn’t require much introduction inside Bobi Wine’s things. He is the LoP and in that position he has taken in a lot of bullets which ordinarily would have been Kyagulanyi’s.
His decision to abandon his somewhat comfortable job at NTV to go into the unknown inspired many similarly young professionals like Rwanyaga to begin looking at Bobi and his then People Power mob more favorably. And many of them ended up joining. Ssenyonyi is loyal and value addition to Bobi Wine in every sense of the word.
Benjamin Katana is equally vital as is David Musiri who is the man with the Kyagulanyi password on all matters relating to Universities where the NUP support is as strong as a rock.
He is the man who knows the young people of high commitment to the NUP cause and how to get them to kuyiwawo omubiri for the Principal at short notice. He is the link between Kavule and the young intellectuals at all Uganda’s universities and other tertiary institutions.
Closely related to this is the very beautiful Shamim Nambasa who until not very long ago was the guild president for Makerere university. She previously belonged to DP which she opportunistically jumped away from just in time to land the NUP flag for Makerere presidency.
She is intellectual, eloquent and organically committed which is why she is always available to be deployed anytime anywhere. She has an effective network of fighters not only among Makerereans but campusers at other Ugandan universities. She is intelligent and knows what to say for the appropriate occasion.
When she speaks you get the impression that NUP is the best home for young intellectuals and future thought leaders for Uganda. Nambasa, a scientist who has been wanting to join the Makerere Law School, can competently discuss any subject at short notice. She is courageous and doesn’t fear being locked up by the “Museveni Junta” which she keeps saying she will one day “vaccinate out of power.”
Others valuable fighters include Muwanga Kivumbi who opportunistically is always spying on colleagues in order to help Kyagulanyi have some semblance of intelligence regarding especially who is hobnobbing with Mpuuga and who isn’t.
The Butambala MP is a good emissary of NUP as Buganda caucus chairman and as PAC boss who does a good job unlike his Kyagulanyi attention-seeking rival Betty Nambooze who flopped as committee chair for Government Assurances and now as shadow minister for internal affairs.
Muwanga is also the man emboldening Bobi Wine not to fear the Mathias Mpuuga group and other haters hiding at Mengo. Bobi Wine, who famously failed to articulate his fiscal policy on TV, believes that Muwanga is a good economist and always feels safe around him on those matters of fiscal policy. A tycoon of some sort, Muwanga Kivumbi owns a recreation facility near Buwate which people at Bobi Wine’s home are free to visit, enjoy and eat free things whenever they feel like.
Nambooze is another loyalist Bobi Wine can’t afford to lose because she ably uses the platform which the biased and meal card-seeking NBS TV Barometer moderator Blasio Zambali Mukasa makes available every Tuesday night to explain the decisions and state of affairs in NUP.
Being a sophist, Zambali-enabled Nambooze uses the Barometer platform to deceptively defend Bobi Wine (who privately she is very contemptuous of and doesn’t like at heart) while lying about his perceived adversaries.
Because he wants to get a better job than he currently has by becoming an MP in 2026 for Nansana, Zambali merely laughs around as Nambooze delivers her sophist rhetoric which is clearly targeted at winning favors of thousands of gullible Kyagulanyi supporters operating online.
Lutamaguzi Semakula, who has no name to protect and therefore loses nothing in all circumstances, is another fighter Bobi Wine can’t afford to lose.
He pays radio and TV producers and presenters to keep inviting him for interviews, a platform he uses to dupe the gullible Kadamas while extending blind flattery which Bobi Wine, like all tyrants, likes very much.
Lutamaguzi is hosted on radios and TVs more often than other politicians not because he is the most intelligent or the one always with something to say about everything but simply because he pays more money for such appearances than all the would-be interviewees.
He is good at duping because there are people he can never say anything bad against like Anita Among yet the Kadamas consider him to be a fearless debater who takes no prisoners during radio talk shows yet in actual sense this isn’t entirely true.
Abubaker Kawalya and Zahara Luyulika aren’t only special friends inside NUP but are also generous Muslims who fund Bobi Wine besides helping him keep the direct connection with the very influential Prince Kassim Nakibinge of Kibuli.
This is a very important relationship for Bobi Wine for whom things have never been very good at Mengo and inside the Buganda royal family since his proxy Lumbuye specialised on going personal on Katikkiro Mayiga and Kabaka’s family members.
Nakibinge is Kabaka’s brother and is autonomous in his operations and is also very contemptuous of Mayiga. Bobi Wine believes he is his diehard supporter inside the royal family of Buganda. That moral support matters a lot in politics and its the reason why Kawalya and Luyulika are very pivotal.
Alex Waisswa Mufumbiro is a shameless hatchetman, a cheerful and relentless enforcer of all Bobi Wine’s wishes since he has gradually distinguished himself to be someone who can step on and tell off anyone on air and get away with it.
