SHREWD; Here’s How Faridah Nambi Beat Betty Nambooze to Grab Segirinya Widow

By KT Reporter

It’s official that one of fallen Kawempe North MP Mohammed Segirinya’s widow Mariam Nakabuye aka Maama Nagirinya is with NRM and her candidate is Faridah Nambi Kigongo and not NUP-backed Erias Luyimbazi Nalukoola. She is disappointed with NUP’s refusal to back ex-PA Mohammed Alex Luswa who had committed to share his salary with the deceased’s family and orphans.

Nakabuye mothers one of Segirinya’s most known kids called Nagirinya whose welfare and sustenance going forward has been of great concern. There has been concern about how the youngster will sustainably go to school and even have her livelihood catered for.

When Mohammed Alex Luswa, the deceased’s PA who the family wanted to get the NUP flag and be able to look after the widows, failed to get Kyagulanyi’s backing, the family got anxious on how they would make ends meet going forward. Nakabuye realized life was going to be hard because she tried Nalukoola and realized there is no way he was going to ever share his salary with them in order to look after or support Segirinya’s orphans.

She escalated the matter to NUP headquarters and Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya got involved. He consulted and offered to help in whatever way he could.

Rubongoya had offered to take up Nagirinya and adopt her to leave in her home as a foster daughter yet after Nakabuye consulted, she was advised that Rubongoya wouldn’t be of much help because he is a single man who isn’t married as yet; meaning that his home may not be the best to raise a foster child from.

Rubongoya’ culture being a Munyankole was also another factor because Nakabuye wants her Nagirinya to be raised in Ganda culture. She shared with Rubongoya all her reservations about this and that’s how it was suggested that Mukono Municipality MP Betty Nambooze (aka Mama NUP) takes over Nagirinya as her foster parent. Because she wants to appease Bobi Wine and get to be praised by the Kadamas on social media, Nambooze quickly accepted to take up Nagirinya promising to raise her from her own home in Mukono.

Nakabuye was advised this too wasn’t sustainable because Nambooze won’t be MP forever. She was also told that she is belligerent and unpredictable meaning she can turn against the Segirinya orphan anytime. She is quarrelsome and good at finding fault in people yet she didn’t have that much good personal relationship and chemistry with Segirinya, her late father.

The most important thing was that Nambooze, who has been MP since 2010, is very unlikely to have another 10 years in the House yet she is unemployable elsewhere. Nakabuye reflected on what happens to her daughter the day Nambooze ceases to hold her job as MP.

When she raised these fresh concerns with leaders at NUP Secretariat, she was told to stop being complicated because nobody owed her a living. That’s how she felt frustrated and considered contacting the NRM candidate Faridah Nambi who is a daughter to rich man Moses Kigongo and even personally has her Nambi Foundation which does charity in Kawempe including paying school fees and fostering children from vulnerable backgrounds. Gratefully, Nambi received her with open hands.

This Nambi Foundation has existed for decades and will be there supporting hundreds of vulnerable children regardless of whether Faridah becomes MP or not. In contrast, Nambooze can (at best) only be in position to help for as long as she remains MP for Mukono. Her capacity and willingness to help ends the day she ceases to be MP.

Nambi is financially well established even at a personal level because she has not less than 10 rental apartments block in Kawempe North including in Kyebando Central Zone and Kawempe Mbogo where she resides. Even as a person, she is more authentic, more complementary and charitable than the volatile Betty Nambooze.

Nakabuye, who might end up landing a State House job on Tuesday when Museveni will be coming to campaign for Nambi, in the end felt that Faridah was a more dependable and authentic person to do the Nagirinya-related business with than Nambooze who is always fortune-hunting and rarely honest.

Already State House is grateful that Nakabuye, whose orphaned daughter Nagirinya has already found a permanent abode at Kigongo’s home, has been attending all Nambi’s rallies and addressing fellow Kawempe residents while imploring them to vote for her as opposed to Nalukoola. Intelligence reports indicate that she is having some impact including diminishing the NUP candidate Nalukoola’s appeal to especially her fellow women and single mothers in the Kawempe ghettos.

Nakabuye has been and continues to be one of the main speakers at Faridah Nambi’s rallies including the Sunday ones. On Tuesday, president Museveni will get to see her and take note of her mobilization capabilities as she will be one of the main speakers at Faridah Nambi’s final campaign rally.
