Seven people have been remanded over the murder of Compassion International Uganda official Godfrey Wayengera. The suspects were on Wednesday arraigned before Mukono Grade One Magistrate Elizabeth Peace Lamunu and charged with three counts of murder, kidnapping and aggravated robbery.

They include Asharaf Tumusiime, 40, a resident of Ntungamo; Fahad Kasolo (30) of Iganga; Mike Ssentaza (40) from Wakiso known as Mwagamwaga, and Sgt. Muhammad Mwesigye (54) aka Jet Lee from Fort Portal.

Others are Cpl. Mugabe Boban, attached to UPDF Military Police at Kololo, Keeya Derrick, resident of Ntenjeru Mukono and Dauda Kyangwe.

According to prosecution, the suspects and others who are still at large, on June 9, 2025, at Nsuube A village in Mukono Central Division, using a toy pistol and sticks, kidnapped Wanyengera and Christine Najjabi. The suspects later killed Wanyengera.

Court also heard that the suspects stole a mobile phone, Samsung SMA256, worth 1.3 million Shillings, a laptop, Dell Latitude 5420, worth 3 million Shillings, belonging to Wanyengera.

Senior Resident State Attorney Emily Ninsiima told the court that the investigation into the case is ongoing and asked the suspects to be remanded.

The magistrates remanded the suspects to Luzira until 7th August.

“This court is not permitted to hear your case, but you have the right to apply for bail from the High Court, and you will be returned next month for mention.”

Wayengera, who was also the Director of Beloved Daycare and Nursery School in Nsube, was kidnapped while he was returning from a burial in Mbale. The suspects, dressed in UPDF-like uniforms, claimed they were escorting him to Mukono Police Station, but instead, they took them to Kyungu Road, where they killed him.
