As the festive season approaches, the Savannah Regional Police are urging the public to take proactive measures to ensure their own security. The Savannah region spans three districts: Luwero, Nakaseke, and Nakasongola.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sam Twiineamazima, the Savannah Regional Police spokesperson, emphasized the importance of individual vigilance, particularly as the nation prepares for Christmas and New Year celebrations.

In an interview with Uganda Radio Network (URN), Twiineamazima cautioned that the police cannot be present in every neighborhood, stressing that security starts with each individual.

He said, “Security begins with you.” Twiineamazima urged residents to stay alert and take precautions to protect their homes and belongings. He explained that the festive season often brings financial strain for many people, which may lead some individuals to resort to theft or burglary to fund their holiday celebrations.

He pointed out that those struggling financially might be tempted to steal items for quick cash during this time.

Twiineamazima made this call for increased personal security in light of a recent incident in which a black Toyota Wish, Registration Number UBG 459Y, was stolen in Nakasongola District on Saturday.

The vehicle was reported stolen early on Saturday morning after its owner, Boaz Twinamasiko, had parked it securely in the compound of his rented house around 9:00 PM.

According to preliminary reports, Twinamasiko returned home from work, parked his vehicle securely, and went to bed. By 10:30 PM, another tenant arrived and parked their vehicle, which Twinamasiko recognized as belonging to a neighbor.

When Twinamasiko woke up at around 2:00 AM, he discovered that his vehicle was missing, while the neighbor’s car remained in place.

Upon realizing the theft, Twinamasiko immediately reported the incident to Nakasongola Central Police Station (CPS).

The police have since registered a case of vehicle theft and launched an investigation to recover the stolen vehicle and apprehend the responsible parties.

Twiineamazima reiterated the importance of implementing safety measures before the police can arrive to assist.

“We are working diligently to ensure community safety, but we urge everyone to take responsibility for their own security,” he said-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
