The Rwampara Magistrates Court has remanded Asaph Kamugisha, a clinical officer at Kinoni Health Centre IV, to Kyamugorani Government Prison over allegations that he obtained 23 million Shillings from two people by falsely promising to secure them jobs.
Kamugisha appeared before Grade One Magistrate Obed Rekyeraho on Tuesday and was charged with two counts of obtaining money by false pretence, contrary to Sections 2 and 5 of the Penal Code Act.
According to the charge sheet, Kamugisha allegedly obtained 15 million Shillings from Severa Nshabuhurira on February 23, 2026, at Kinoni Town in Rwampara District by falsely claiming that he would help her secure employment.
In the second count, Kamugisha is accused of obtaining 8 million Shillings from Cyrus Arinaitwe in February 2026 at Kinoni, allegedly on the pretext that he would secure him a job as a clinical officer with the Rwampara District Local Government.
Kamugisha’s arrest followed complaints raised by residents during the Minister of Local Government, Balaam Barugahara’s, national anti-corruption campaign dubbed Expose the Corrupt, which was held in Rwampara District.
Mariam Natasha, the spokesperson for the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, said investigators conducted inquiries following Kamugisha’s arrest, leading to his arraignment in court.
Natasha urged members of the public not to pay money in exchange for employment opportunities and encouraged those who encounter such schemes to report them to the relevant authorities. The magistrate remanded Kamugisha until November 3, 2026, when the case will come up for mention-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
