Mengo area KCCA lord councilor Moses Katabu is determined to be expelled from the NUP party as opposed to allowing secretary general David L Rubongoya to take the seat unopposed from the Kavule side.
Being a diplomat, Rubongoya has tried sweet-talking Katabu out of the race in vain. Katabu says Rubongoya should go and stand in his home area of Ankole and leave Kampala central for a Muganda because it’s in Buganda.
Katabu also says he has been a leading opposition mobiliser in Kampala central even during those hard days when the NRM led by Capt Babu and his wife Margaret Zziwa were dominating everything.
He says that he was there sweating with fellow UYDs like William Kamulegeya, Charles Musoke Sserunjogi, John Mary Sebuwufu, Abdul Karim Lukoda and others at the time Rubongoya was still a Museveni man enjoying sausages, soft life and patronage of Museveni’s generals like Sejusa, Kayihura, Elly Tumwine and others.
Katabu, who now Kavule sees as a traitor because he only needs to get a few votes and spoil the party for Rubongoya because NRM remains strong in the central division, says he is ready to go down fighting rather than betraying comrades who have died over the years in the struggle to liberate Kampala central from Museveni’s cadres. Much of this fight happened at a time Rubongoya’s father was still moving with him in his pockets.
Katabu has made it clear that he will remain in the race even if it means going to direct war and political battle with Rubongoya’s sponsor Bobi Wine. Katabu, who lives in Sserwanga village near Rubaga road, has been a city councilor from Kampala central since the year 2001.
In defying Kavule over the Kampala central seat, Katabu is counting on active support of like-minded actors like Abed Bwanika, Lubega Mukaku, Kasibante Moses and others in Mpuuga’s democratic alliance.
Abed Bwanika says it’s unacceptable for Rubongoya, a Munyankole, to take precedence in Kampala central ahead of Baganda politicians like Katabu. Bwanika calls them Abaana ba Buganda/the children of Buganda. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
