The freedom party (PFF)’s secretary general Semujju Nganda has revealed that the NUP secretary general David Lewis Rubongoya is one of the people who secretly contributed money with which their inaugural Katonga delegates conference was organized in Kampala a few months ago.
PFF was formed by leaders who rejected Nandala’s dictatorship and dirty deals at Najjanankumbi and migrated to Besigye’s offices at Katonga road in Nakasero.
These included Semujju Nganda, Salaam Musumba, Erias Lukwago, Wasswa Birigwa, Wafula Ogutu and others. Semujju says they were broke and didn’t have money to fund the delegates conference and other very important meetings for Katonga.
They had to approach people of good will and received contributions from different actors including Rubongoya. “He actually gave us 5m and we are eaternerly grateful to him, the way we appreciate all the other contributors.”
Appearing on his weekly program on Kabaka’s CBS radio on which he features every Thursday evening, Semujju made this statement to demonstrate that people can harmoniously co-exist and support each other’s respective political causes even when they belong to different political parties.
“What matters is to identify someone as a genuine comrade in the broader anti-Museveni struggle,” Semujju said in a bid to advise Kyagulanyi’s NUP supporters not to take fellow opposition activists as bad people or enemies simply because they are not NUP flag bearers.
He said that the struggle to remove Museveni and properly rebuild Uganda will require all good intentioned people coming and working together. He was appearing with James Kakooza who he said is a good man even when he is in NRM party.
“That’s why if we win government today, I won’t hesitate recommending to Kyagulanyi or whoever will be president to make him (Kakooza) the new RDC for Kaabong. He can contribute because you are going to require everybody’s skill to rebuild this country after Museveni is finally gone. I can tell you this Kakooza man you see here will be so happy to serve and will end up saying I wish these guys came to power earlier. He won’t believe the goodness that comes with living in a newly liberated country,” Semujju said causing Kakooza to laugh at himself.
Kakooza protested to the moderator by saying “this man can be very disrespectful. How can the whole me, a former minister and at my age, be made RDC Kaabong? I think I’m above that.”
Semujju explained how they (himself, Nambooze, Muwanga Kivumbi, Lulume Bayiga, Medard Segona, Moses Kasibante etc) used to be there for each other even when they belonged to different parties.
“That was all possible because Dr. Besigye led us in a such a way that made us to realize that the struggle to end family rule was bigger than all of us and our respective parties. I personally was assigned to sleep at the home of a poor teacher for weeks as we camped in Butambala to deliver Muwanga Kivumbi who was on the DP ticket. We were so many and each had been assigned a sub county. I had mine, Nambooze had hers as did Mpuuga and Segona. In my case, the teacher was so poor that I had to bathe everyday from a banana plantation. I had to wait for everybody to go to bed in that village for me to be able to bathe in a babana plantation under the cover of darkness,” Semujju Nganda said making it clear he was always already to sacrifice for any of his comrades even when none of them belonged to his FDC party.
“We had young boys in FDC who would confront me saying why are you using our strong FDC brand to campaign for those DPs who don’t want to join FDC?”
Semujju concluded that leadership requires explaining to ensure that such ordinary party members get to understand what is at stake and why you need to build a grand coalition of like-minded actors in the broader change coalition.
