The Revolutionary People’s Party (RPP) has explained the absence of its presidential candidate, Frank Kabinga Bulira, from all scheduled campaign venues, attributing it to frozen party bank accounts. Kabinga was expected to begin his campaign trail on Monday in Luuka District and later proceed to Hoima, Buyende, Kapchorwa, Bukwo, Kween, and Bushenyi. However, he did not appear in any of these areas.
RPP National Chairman Joshua Clinton Kaswabuli said the party had secured adequate funds for the campaign period but cannot access them after their accounts were frozen. “Our money has been frozen — good money indeed. Even our campaign materials, including T-shirts, caps, and posters, were confiscated. That is what has caused this standoff. Otherwise, we are working around the clock to get going,” Kaswabuli said.
Kabinga, who did not hold a post-nomination rally, said he is currently using alternative means to reach out to voters. “Every candidate and political party has its own way of reaching voters. Some presidential candidates launched their manifestos recently, and we are also using our own means to make voters understand our ideology,” Kabinga said.
Kaswabuli added that the public should not be worried, saying the party is developing unique strategies that will soon be unveiled. “I am with the presidential candidate, and we are finalizing our strategies. The candidate is very relaxed, and we are soon releasing our field convoy and campaign plan,” Kaswabuli stated. He further claimed that the government might be targeting them because RPP is a “liberation movement.” “They fear our party because we are a liberation movement. They keep giving funny reasons — asking about the source of our money or its purpose. Yet we are a registered political party, and all our operations are within the law,” he added.
Kabinga and Kasibante of the National Peasants Party (NPP) are the only first-time presidential candidates in the 2026 race. The rest have previously appeared on the presidential ballot or served as Members of Parliament.
For example, Yoweri Museveni, the NRM flag bearer, has been on the presidential ballot since 1980, while Robert Kyagulanyi (NUP) and Mugisha Muntu (ANT) appeared in 2021. Elton Joseph Mabirizi of CP contested in 2016, while Mubarak Munyagwa (CMP) and Nathan Nandala Mafabi (FDC) have both served as Members of Parliament.
