The members of rotary groups in Kampala have become demoralized after it was indicated to them that the new speaker of parliament doesn’t recognize the pledge of Ugx1bn that was made to them by former speaker Anita Among.
Because money was not a problem to her, as she had 28bn just for donations under her office, Anita Among had met rotary representatives and promised to give them 1bn as her contribution to their charity work such as construction of hospital wards to give specialized treatment. That same day, Among registered and became a member of a rotary club.
Because she is now in very big problems, Anita Among has nowhere to personally get that money from without using the resources of parliament but even when this is the case, the rotarians are determined to keep trying until they meet her at the Nakasero home in the hope that she can put Oboth-Oboth under pressure to give them the money since the promise was made by her in the name of parliament.
The leaders of rotary who knew this was a done deal are now stuck and they don’t know what to tell their members who had become very much excited about the offer of 1bn. Oboth-Oboth has been clear that he won’t be a speaker who splashes money on any person or group in order for him to buy favour and be liked.
This means that what Anita Among gave rotarians was hot air and nothing else and the top bosses must call a meeting and announce to members to forget about the 1bn totally and the same will damage the credibility of parliament and the speaker’s office.
