Rev. Fr. Bonaventure Bosco Katusiime Gubazire has been appointed the new Bishop of Kabale Diocese. Rev. Fr. Georges Kwami Kouwono made the announcement Wednesday afternoon during a special Mass at Our Lady of Good Shepherd Rushoroza Cathedral Parish in Kabale District, where he represented Pope Leo X.
He succeeds Bishop Callist Rubaramira, whose resignation was accepted after he stepped down upon reaching the canonical retirement age. Bishop Rubaramira submitted his resignation to Pope Francis last year in accordance with Church law, which requires bishops to offer their resignation at the age of 75.
Rev. Fr. Katusiime, who is currently serving in the missionary apostolate in Ghana, was not immediately available for comment following the announcement. Pope has also appointed retired Bishop Rubaramira as the Kabale Diocese Apostolic Administrator.
