President Museveni has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic road crash that claimed 46 lives and left several others injured along the Kampala–Gulu Highway in the early hours of 22nd October 2025.

In his condolence message, the President extended sympathies to the bereaved families and directed the State House Comptroller to provide Shs 5 million to each bereaved family and Shs 1 million to each injured victim.

The accident occurred at approximately 12:15 am at Kitaleba Village, near Asili Farm, and involved four motor vehicles:

UBF 614X, Isuzu bus (Nile Star Coaches)
CGO 5132AB 07, Toyota Surf
UBK 647C, Tata Lorry
UAM 045V, Isuzu bus (Planet Company)
According to initial investigations, the driver of the UBF 614X Isuzu bus, heading from Kampala towards Gulu, attempted to overtake the Tata Lorry (UBK 647C) at the scene of the crash. Simultaneously, the UAM 045V Isuzu bus, approaching from the opposite direction, was overtaking the Toyota Surf (CGO 5132AB 07).

During these overtaking maneuvers, the two buses encountered each other head-on. One of the drivers attempted to swerve to avoid the collision, but this resulted in a head-on and side impact, causing a chain reaction that led to other vehicles losing control and overturning multiple times.

Police confirmed that 46 people were killed, while several others were injured. Authorities noted that during the initial response, some unconscious victims were mistakenly counted among the dead, resulting in earlier discrepancies in the fatality figures.
