A Police Constable has shot his colleague Evarest Natujuna, in a suspected crime of passion. The incident happened on Thursday at Naguru Police Barracks.
Arthur Muhangi reportedly entered the room in which Natujuna was resting and shot three bullets into his head and chest, killing him on the spot. There are two accounts of the suspected motive of the murder.
Some of the civilians in Naguru barracks said the suspect, who is currently on the run, reportedly accused the deceased of having an affair with his lover, whose name was not revealed. Others said Constable Muhangi was demanding Constable Natujuna 100,000 shillings.
“The true motive of this crime isn’t yet established. Some linked the murder to love affairs, and others connected it to an unfulfilled debt of 100,000 shillings. But the murder was well planned and the suspect took off after the gruesome act,” an Inspector of Police said.
Kituuma Rusoke, the Police Spokesperson, said the motive is yet to be established. “We registered a suspected murder here at Naguru, where Constable Muhangi Arthur was shot and killed by Constable Natujuna Everest. The suspect is currently on the run. Investigations are ongoing to establish the motive,” ACP Rusoke said.
Constable Muhangi dumped the gun at the scene and took off. Rusoke said that when they arrest Constable Muhangi, they will be able to know the motive. The incident has come barely eight months after Constable Alex Adei shot to death Constable Seezi Tusiime.
Adei, a counter-terrorism policeman, said he intentionally killed Tusiime before he pulled the trigger on his wife, Barbra Apia Kongai. Adei accused Tusiime of having sexual intercourse with his wife whenever he was away for policing duties.
Adei fled the scene with the killer rifle but was traced and arrested by the joint team from the Directorate of Crime Intelligence (DCI) and Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID). At first, police suspected Adei had only killed his wife Apia, but during the combing of the crime scene, Tusiime’s body was found inside a room.
Adei and Apia were staying as a couple in Ntinda police barracks, but they got into misunderstandings, which forced her to shift to Naguru police barracks, where Tusiime was reportedly housing her-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
