Officers from Arua City Central Police Station added colour and vibrancy to Christmas Day prayers at Christ the King Catholic Parish in Arua City. Joined by their counterparts from the Uganda Prisons Service and the Immigration Department, more than 40 police officers—belonging to the Police Cell Small Christian Community—led the second Mass and presented several items to support the priests serving at the parish.
Leading the team, the Deputy Regional Police Commander for West Nile, Richard Anyama, called for peace, happiness, and godliness as Christians marked the Christmas celebrations.
Meanwhile, the Community Liaison Officer at Arua Cosmopolitan Central Police Station, Alfred Matua, assured the congregation and residents of Greater Arua of their security and urged the public to cooperate with security agencies.
Presiding over the second Mass, Rev. Fr. Epiphany Picho commended the Uganda Police Force for animating the liturgy and appealed to Christians to observe the law as they celebrate Christmas, cautioning against engaging in activities that could bring them into conflict with law enforcement.
The Liturgical Moderator of Christ the King Catholic Parish, Francis Adrapi, urged Christians to embrace peaceful coexistence with the police by avoiding criminal acts that could strain relations between the public and security forces.
Hundreds of congregants from within and outside the West Nile region who gathered for the Christmas Day prayers applauded the Police Force—made up of officers from different religious backgrounds—for animating the Mass, describing it as a rare gesture and the first of its kind at the parish in decades.
