Police in Adjumani district have rescued nine victims of human trafficking, as efforts to apprehend the suspects continue. A case of trafficking in persons, under case number ADJ CRB 605/2025, has been opened in connection with the incident, and further investigations are ongoing.
The rescued victims have been identified as Abdul Rashid Ali Ahli, Fatma Mohamed, Hassan Khalid, Hanad Daahir, Abdulahi Ahmed, Tesfahewed Tesfa Mario, Jamal Abdi, Abukari Yusuf Omar, and Naom Weldemicher. According to police reports, on 12th October 2025 at 7:00 AM, Adjumani Police Station received information from a woman identified as Gloria.
She reported that a friend from Kenya, Joseph Olupot, said his brother and several others were being detained at IQM Guest House in Adjumani Town. The information raised suspicion and prompted further action. Collins Asea, the North West Nile Police Spokesperson, confirmed that police officers, with the assistance of GPS technology, conducted a raid on the guest house. During the operation, nine individuals — one adult female and eight males — were found staying in two separate rooms.
The guest house owners stated that the rooms had been rented to an unidentified group who had not paid rent, and their current whereabouts were unknown. Attempts to contact the suspected individual via phone were unsuccessful, as the number was switched off, suggesting possible evasion or security concerns.
“The victims were immediately rescued and taken to Adjumani Police Station. A case of human trafficking has been registered at Adjumani CPS, and investigations are ongoing. Authorities are actively searching for the suspect responsible for bringing these victims to Adjumani,” Asea said.
On interrogation, five of the victims were brought from Kenya, while four are registered refugees from Somalia residing in Uganda. They reported that they had only met at the guest house and had no prior connection. Preliminary investigations indicate that the victims were transported from Kampala to Adjumani by saloon cars before being taken to the guest house.
The victims claimed they had been lured from Kenya and Uganda with promises of employment in Juba. All eight rescued victims are Somali nationals — either from Kenya or registered refugees from Somalia — and were unemployed in Kampala’s Kisenyi area before their rescue. Currently, the victims are being held at IQM Guest House, Odriyi Cell, while police, in collaboration with local leadership, work to locate and reunite them with their families.
Police are appealing to anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects involved in this trafficking incident to come forward. Human trafficking is the unlawful act of transporting or coercing people to benefit from their labor or services, typically in the form of forced labor or sexual exploitation.
