Police in Kiboga District have rescued a seven-year-old boy who was allegedly kidnapped from Kiboga Town Council and arrested two suspects in connection with the crime. The victim, Rayan Lukyamuzi, a Primary One pupil at Sedin Paul Kiboga Primary School, was reported missing on July 7, 2026, by his mother, Hanipher Nabugwawo, 27, a mobile money agent and resident of Kabakanjagala Cell in Kiboga Town Council.
According to the Wamala Regional Police spokesperson, Lameck Kigozi, the child disappeared at about 8:30 p.m. after he was last seen with his friend, identified only as Innocent, watching videos on the mobile phone of Saul Nkwanga, a regular customer at his mother’s mobile money business.
Kigozi said Nkwanga later walked away with the two boys to a nearby market, where he bought them Irish potatoes. They were later joined by Moses Collins, who arrived on a motorcycle. The two men allegedly left with Lukyamuzi after instructing his friend, Innocent, to return home.
Investigations indicate that Lukyamuzi was first taken to Nkwanga’s home before being handed over to Ainembabazi Agnes, Nkwanga’s wife, at Kawango Village in Mulagi Sub-county, Kyankwanzi District. “The victim was confined incommunicado in a one-roomed house,” Kigozi said.
Police believe Nkwanga deliberately allowed the child to continue watching videos on his phone to gain his trust and lure him away without resistance. “The suspect gave the phone to the victim to watch videos in order to confuse him and take him away from his mother without resistance,” Kigozi added.
Investigators also suspect the kidnappers intended to demand a ransom after an anonymous note containing a telephone contact was reportedly dropped at the mother’s business premises, instructing her to call if she wanted her child back.
Kigozi said police responded immediately after the disappearance was reported by visiting the scene, recording witness statements, and issuing radio announcements. The breakthrough came after detectives arrested Nkwanga, who allegedly led them to the house where the child had been hidden. “The victim was recovered in good health from Mulagi Sub-county in Kyankwanzi District,” Kigozi said.
Police also arrested Ainembabazi Agnes for her alleged role in the kidnapping. Another suspect, identified as Moses Collins, remains at large, and investigations are ongoing. Police have urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant about the people they allow to interact closely with their children, warning that criminals can exploit familiarity and trust to target minors-URN.
