Police in Kapchorwa are investigating the death of a 26-year-old boda boda rider whose body was found along the Kapchorwa-Mbale road in Kapchorwa Municipality on Friday 25. The deceased has been identified as Crispas Kabulwo, a resident of Lakatet Cell, Chepsikuroi Ward in Central Division, Kapchorwa Municipality.
The body was found at Tongwo Cell, Tongwo Ward in West Division, near his red CT Bajaj motorcycle, registration number UFW 564F. Fredmark Chesang, the Sipi Regional Police spokesperson, said the incident was reported at about 6:30am by a by an area resident prompting traffic officers to visit the reported scene.
According to Chesang, police found no visible evidence to suggest that an accident had occurred at the spot where the body and motorcycle were found. A team of homicide and Scene of Crime Officers led by Detective Assistant Inspector of Police Murangi Tom was dispatched to the scene and establish the circumstances surrounding the death.
“There were no traces of an accident at the scene, such as tyre marks, skid marks or broken parts from the motorcycle or any other element,” Chesang said. He noted that, the motorcycle was found lying on the pedestrian walkway, facing the deceased, while the body was a few metres away with the head facing the motorcycle.
He explained that preliminary police findings indicate that the deceased could have been involved in an accident at another location and may have managed to ride the motorcycle to Tongwo before collapsing and dying. “Our findings indicate that the accident could have happened from somewhere else, but the rider may have had the strength to ride up to where he was found before he collapsed and died. Investigations are still ongoing,” Chesang said.
However, Phillip Arosho, the LC3 Chairperson of West Division, said residents suspect that Kubulwo may have been murdered elsewhere and his body dumped at the scene. “While police are investigating, I think the deceased was beaten and body dumped” he said. The body was taken to Kapchorwa Main Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination, while the motorcycle was conveyed to Kapchorwa Police Yard pending inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles-URN.
