‎Willy Ogwal, the Officer in Charge for Kyesiiga Police Post in Masaka district, has been arrested for shooting dead civilians following a conflict in a bar. ‎Ogwal allegedly shot three people, including a 2-year-old toddler, on Saturday night, after he responded to a bar fight in Ndeeba trading center in Lwaggulwe parish.‎

‎Mikidad Lusiba, the Kyesiiga sub-county chairperson, narrates that Ogwal had gone to the bar after receiving a call about a fight among revellers. ‎According to him, the policeman responded to the fighting as a group of people engaged suspected phone snatchers in the bar, and when he was overwhelmed by the situation, he drew a gun to fire bullets‎

‎Lusiba indicates that in the shootout, Ogwal instantly killed Ashiraf Kiweewa, a two-year-old baby, before injuring his mother, Aisha Kisakyamukama, and Gerald Kiweewa, who are nursing wounds at Kyanamukaka Health Center IV.

‎‎Ogwal was eventually picked by police officers from Masaka Central Police Station at Kyanamukaka sub-county, where he is currently detained. ‎According to the Greater Masaka Regional police spokesperson, Twaha Kasirye, investigations into the matter have been instituted. ‎”We just want to understand what really transpired at the scene, whether it is murder or it was in self-defense, and we have recorded statements from some eyewitnesses,” he said-URN.
