Police in Kasese are investigating the suspicious death of a 62-year-old security guard whose body was discovered inside his room in Kyondo Cell, Nyamwamba Division, Kasese Municipality. The deceased, identified as Kangalighali Stephen Masereka, was employed by Jimark Security Company.
According to police, the area chairperson raised the alarm early Wednesday morning after noticing that Masereka’s room was locked and detecting a strong smell believed to be that of rat poison coming from inside. Concerned that Masereka could be in danger, the chairperson contacted officers at Rukoki Police Station, who responded and broke into the room. Police found Masereka lying motionless on the floor.
Elly Mate, the Rwenzori East Police Spokesperson, said crime scene investigators secured and documented the scene before the body was conveyed to Kasese Municipal Health Centre Mortuary for a postmortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.
Police are now questioning residents and Masereka’s colleagues as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding his death. No suspect or motive has been identified so far, and police say investigations are ongoing-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
