Police in Kitgum District are investigating the death of a 30-year-old man reportedly found dead in his girlfriend’s home. Goddy Onencan allegedly took his own life by hanging at a residence in Mede Village, Labongo Akwang Sub-county. Authorities are treating the case as a suspected suicide.
Joe Oloya, Aswa East Regional Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident. According to Oloya, Onencan disagreed with his girlfriend, Lillian Aciro, who is also his clan sister, which escalated into a fight that attracted the attention of Aciro’s brothers.
The brothers reportedly intervened, allegedly assaulted Onencan, and locked him in one of the houses on their compound. Later, when they checked on him, they found him hanging from a rope. “A Death Enquiry File (DEF) has been opened to investigate and ascertain the cause of death,” Oloya said. “Statements have been recorded from witnesses, including the deceased’s girlfriend.”
Onencan’s body has been taken to Kitgum General Hospital pending an autopsy, after which it will be handed over to family members for burial. Oloya condemned the incident and urged couples to resolve conflicts peacefully and seek help when needed to prevent such tragedies.
