The Uganda Police Force has clarified earlier communication regarding the death of Fahad Lubega, saying initial information shared on its social media platforms contained an unintended misrepresentation about the incident. Police said the incident was reported at Kiwatule Police Station under Kira Road Division, and investigations were opened under CRB 064/2026.

According to the statement, the incident happened at about 6:30 pm in Kazinga Zone, Kiwatule Parish, Nakawa Division, Kampala City. Police preliminary findings indicate that a client searching for rental property online through Jiji Uganda allegedly contacted Lubega, 30, who presented himself as a property agent.

The client reportedly inspected a house in Kyanja and agreed on rental terms of Shs3 million per month. Police said the client was later instructed to deposit Shs12 million, covering three months’ rent and a security deposit, into a DTB Bank Uganda account registered in Lubega’s name. Police said the payment was made on June 2, 2026, at Metroplex Mall.

However, when the client returned to the property, the caretaker allegedly informed them that the house was not available for rent but was instead being offered for sale. Efforts to reverse the transaction reportedly failed after the money had already been withdrawn, prompting the client to report the matter to the police.

The statement adds that the complainant later received information that Lubega had been sighted at the bank. Upon returning to the location, the suspect had reportedly already been apprehended. Police said Lubega allegedly escaped while under the watch of a bank security guard, after which members of the public pursued and assaulted him.

“Police found that the suspect had already been apprehended and appeared weak, although no visible torture marks were observed at the time,” the statement reads. He was later taken to Kiwatule Police Station for custody but died shortly after arrival. Police said investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death and the suspected rental fraud are ongoing-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
