Police in Butaleja District have arrested a man in connection with the death of a teenager following a violent altercation in the area. The suspect has been identified as Wilber Wegulo, a resident of Damba Cell, Namawa Parish in Kachonga Sub-county.

Wegulo is accused of allegedly murdering 16-year-old Ahamada Jarita, who was also a resident of the same area. Preliminary police investigations indicate that the deceased was involved in a fight with a group of youths on Saturday night, May 9, 2026.

According to police, Ahamada Jarita was attacked in Namaste Village at around 5:00 PM while returning home from a wedding ceremony in Namafafa Village. Police say the teenager encountered a group of violent boys who allegedly assaulted him and left him unconscious.

Bukedi South Regional Police Spokesperson Moses Johnson Mugwe said the matter was reported to Butaleja Police by relatives of the deceased after medics at Nabiganda Health Center IV confirmed Ahamada dead on Sunday, May 10, 2026. Mugwe explained that police immediately responded to the incident, and Scene of Crime Officers managed to arrest one suspect to assist in investigations, while efforts to trace other suspects are ongoing.

He cautioned members of the public against engaging in acts of violence that violate the rights of others, particularly the right to life. By press time, the body had been taken to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital Mortuary for postmortem examination as investigations continue-URN.
