Police in Kween District have arrested two suspects in connection with the suspected murder of a 48-year-old man whose body was discovered inside his home. The deceased was identified as Bushenatch Michael, a resident of Keyabei Village, Aloman Parish, Kaptum Sub-county.
According to Sipi Regional Police spokesperson Fredmark Chesang, Bushenatch is believed to have been attacked and killed by unknown assailants during the night of June 27, 2026. His body was discovered the following morning after neighbours became concerned when he failed to come out of his house.
“Residents who went to check on him noticed blood stains near the door. When they opened the house, they found him lying dead,” Chesang said. Police have identified the prime suspects as Paul Chewanjeli, a resident of Chesakat Village in Binyiny Sub-county, and his wife, Cherop Sisco. The two are currently in custody to assist with investigations.
Chesang said a team comprising homicide detectives, Scene of Crime officers and a canine unit visited the scene to gather evidence. A police sniffer dog was deployed and reportedly led investigators to the arrest of the prime suspect, who was among residents gathered at the scene.
“The canine tracked and led investigators to the suspect. A search of his home yielded burnt and washed clothes suspected to contain blood stains, which have been submitted for forensic DNA analysis,” Chesang said.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased sustained deep cut wounds and was found lying in a pool of blood. Police are pursuing several lines of inquiry, including an alleged land dispute between the deceased and the prime suspect, who are relatives.
Meanwhile, Joseph Chebengat, a former councillor for Binyiny Town Council, said land-related conflicts have become a major driver of violent crime in Kween District. Chebengat noted that many families are embroiled in disputes over land ownership, boundaries and inheritance, resulting in prolonged conflicts that sometimes escalate into deadly violence.
“Most of the murders we are witnessing in Kween are linked to land disputes. The government should intervene and ensure these conflicts are resolved permanently before more lives are lost. We need lasting solutions to the land problem in our communities,” Chebengat said.
He urged government agencies responsible for land administration and conflict resolution to strengthen mediation efforts and expedite the resolution of land disputes to prevent further violence-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
