The Police in Gulu City have arrested 25 suspects following a disruptive night operation targeting criminal networks operating within the city center.
The operation by the Gulu Central Business Policing Division on Thursday night was aimed at dismantling gangs accused of terrorizing residents, particularly during night hours.
Aswa West Region Police Public Relations Officer, David Ongom Mudong said the operation was carried out in areas around Cemetery Road and the Makome Bus Terminal.
Mudong noted that the operations began at about 1:43 a.m. and led to the arrest of 25 male suspects who are currently being detained at Gulu Central Police Station.
He said the suspects face charges including burglary, theft, and drug abuse. He said that detectives are compiling case files for submission to the Resident State Attorney for perusal and legal guidance.
Mudong urged those who intend to engage in acts of criminality to desist or face similar arrest and prosecution.
Police have assured the public that more coordinated operations will be conducted to curb rising cases of theft and insecurity within Gulu City, especially in crime-prone zones.
The operations follow several complaints of cases of burglary and theft of motorcycles by armed men within and outskirts of the city.
Last month alone, unknown armed men shot dead a school teacher in Laroo-Pece Division and injured another boda boda rider before making away with his motorcycle in Bardege-Layibi Division.
