Police in Pader District are investigating the sudden death of a 40-year-old woman under unclear circumstances, with her husband now in custody to assist with inquiries. The deceased, Doreen Anying, a resident of Kiteny East Village in Acoro Parish, reportedly left her home around 11 a.m. on April 3, 2025, to drink alcohol.
She returned around 11 p.m., only to find her husband, Joseph Odong, had already gone to bed. According to preliminary police reports, Anying knocked on the door, but Odong allegedly refused to open it. She then decided to spend the night at the nearby home of her mother-in-law, Mariana Aceng. The following morning, April 4, Aceng found Anying extremely weak and unable to speak.
Alarmed, she raised a distress call and neighbors rushed to help, offering porridge in an attempt to revive her. However, Anying died at around 10 a.m. Inspector of Police Joe Oloya, the Aswa East Police spokesperson, confirmed the incident and said a case of sudden death has been registered at Pader Central Police Station. He noted that a team of officers visited the scene and the body was transported for a postmortem examination.
“Odong has been arrested to assist with investigations as inquiries into the matter continue,” Oloya said. Bosco Okello, the Acoro Parish Councilor, expressed sorrow over the tragedy and urged residents to reflect on their behavior. “This is very unfortunate,” Okello said. “I urge our people to reduce alcoholism and focus on taking care of their families. When facing challenges, let’s seek help instead of allowing things to spiral.”-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
