The Okoro Coffee Growers’ Cooperative Union has approved a budget of Shs 2.563 billion for its operationalization in the 2025/2026 financial year, a move that has been welcomed across greater Nebbi. The funds will facilitate the revival of the defunct union, including the purchase of coffee from farmers and the distribution of seedlings.
The budget was passed—with amendments—by representatives of 37 primary societies during the union’s annual general meeting held on Tuesday, September 16, 2026, at Ayuda Factory in Abanga Sub-County, Zombo District. According to the union leadership, the budget will be financed through income generated from nursery beds, vehicle operations, rentals, donations, and other sources.
Union chairperson Bernard Olar apologized for the delay in budget approval, citing financial challenges. Representing the Zombo District Commercial Officer, Susan Canwego urged farmers in their primary societies to strengthen the union financially by paying registration fees, annual subscriptions, and savings promptly.
Farmers also resolved that each member will contribute five kilograms of coffee seeds to support the union and prevent financial setbacks. The union did not operate last year due to inadequate funds. Farmers have now been encouraged to be more active and plant new coffee seedlings to boost production.
