New speaker of parliament Oboth-Oboth has met with journalists accredited to cover parliament. And it’s now clear there will be mutual respect, unlike in the past whereby journalists would be intimidated, coerced and turned into spies collecting rumours for the speaker.
The meeting was held on Friday at parliament where Oboth-Oboth promised support and cooperation to ensure a robust media.
There will be collaboration on things like training and capacity building for members of the fourth estate accredited to cover parliament.
The executive of Uganda parliamentary press association was led to the meeting by Sam Ibanda, the president of UPPA and the conversation was productive and aimed at creating a conducive working environment for the reporters.
