The National Resistance Movement grassroots party leaders have welcomed the newly launched parish mobilization strategy that seek to solicit more votes for President Yoweri Museveni as campaigns intensifies ahead of general election.

On Friday, Rose Namayanja Nsereko the NRM Deputy Secretary General and Party Treasurer Ambassador Barbara Nekese Oundo launched the Parish Based Grassroots mobilization strategy to solicit more votes for President Museveni.

According to Namayanja, the strategy will use party structures comprising 63 NRM village committee members to recruit 13 million voters across the country.

Namayanja said that in the strategy, each member is tasked to recruit at least five people from his village so as to hit the target.

Namayanja flagged off the NRM Village committee members at Kapeeka parish in Kapeeka trading centre in Nakaseke district where she asked them to highlight NRM gains during their door-to-door campaigns.

Namayanja also handed over handbooks where each member is supposed to capture details of the five people he recruits for Museveni.

Ambassador Nekesa asked the mobilizers to sensitise the voters on how to cast their votes to eliminate votes that are spoilt out of excitement during elections.

The NRM Village Committee members have since welcomed the strategy saying it will help President Museveni to regain support in the village and kick away strangers who add nothing to campaigns.

Sylvestre Kiguli the NRM Chairman for Kololo village in Kapeeka sub county said the strategy is effective since it has enrolled people from the same community who know the voters and the gains within the area.

Kiguli said that previously, NRM has been recruiting people from other regions, some with language barriers, unable to articulate the gains within the parishes.

Disan Kibirige the NRM Chairperson for Kapeeka parish said that the campaign is also less costly because each person conducts mobilization within his village starting at their home.

Kibirige said that it is also easy to recruit five people for President Museveni starting from friends and family members.

Israel Kisiriza the NRM Chairperson for Kapeeka sub county said the strategy has also boosted morale among party structures to hunt for votes for the candidates.

Kisiriza said in past elections, grassroot mobilizers had been sidelined, which was responsible for poor performance especially in Buganda region.

The NRM mobilizers are hopeful that once implemented as unveiled by party secretariat, President Museveni will win the elections with a bigger margin.
