The NRM chairperson for Arua City, Zoe Bakoko Bakoru, has warned supporters in Arua against continued acts of divisionism and mudslinging. During a joint meeting with different NRM support groups in Arua City on Wednesday, Bakoko said she survived several attempts on her life and warned the party supporters against nursing hatred and mudslinging of the leaders, but to focus on the development agenda for the City and the region.
Bakoko appealed to the NRM supporters to focus on the President’s 10-fold Growth programme, NDP -4 programme, and seek full regional status for West Nile instead of bickering over money which is not meant for them.
Leslie Ben Isudi, the NRM chairperson for Ayivu West and a member of NRM NEC, challenged the NRM supporters and mobilizers to distinguish between loyal and non-loyal NRM members, who he says tend to cause disunity among the party members.
But Swadik Amaku, the chairperson of the Arua City Boda Boda Association, demanded that members of the Arua City Boda Boda Association who offered transport services during the election process be paid what they worked for.
He, however, decried the manner in which acts of divisionism were pushed to the Boda Boda Association by self-seeking NRM leaders during the election period, which he says has created hatred among some of the association members who accuse each other of ‘eating’ their money.
According to reports, many NRM-leaning vigilantes in Arua ambushed the Minister of Local Government, Balaam Barugahare, while on an anti-corruption tour in West Nile and demanded that he address the issue of corruption in the NRM office in Arua City and the region.
Since the conclusion of the Presidential and Parliamentary general elections, the Arua City NRM office, which comprises Ayivu East, West and Central Division, has been engulfed in allegations of financial mismanagement of NRM election mobilization funds.
NRM supporters in Arua City, including Boda Bodas, pressure groups, and mobilizers, raised alarm and demonstrated on several occasions, demanding a share of the NRM money meant for vote protection and transportation of vulnerable voters, which they said was released to the NRM Arua City office but did not reach them.
The supporters, especially the Boda Bodas and the Pressure groups, alleged that they were given over shillings 360 million by the NRM party for vote mobilization, which the leaders did not release to them-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
