President Yoweri Museveni has congratulated his grandson, Ruhamya, and Andrew Bakyira upon completing their military training at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the United Kingdom. In a message, Museveni said he was grateful to God for protecting Uganda and enabling the country to address its challenges.
He also thanked God for what he described as blessings to the National Resistance Movement and its precursors over the past 60 years.
Museveni said he was particularly pleased to welcome Ruhamya into what he described as his “big family of UPDF” following his graduation alongside Andrew Bakyira. “Congratulations Ruhamya, congratulations Bakyira,” Museveni said.
He encouraged young Ugandans to consider military service, saying it provides a strong foundation for their future.
“Young Ugandans, Army service gives you good foundation,” Museveni said. The President also congratulated the parents of the two newly graduated officers. Museveni signed off the message as “Ssaabalwanyi,” a title he commonly uses.
Officer Cadet Ruhamya Kainerugaba, is the son of Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces General Muhoozi Kainerugaba. Ruhamya completed the academy’s 44-week Officer Commissioning Course and was commissioned alongside Cadet Andrew Bakira during the Sovereign’s Parade held a week ago at the academy’s historic campus in Surrey.
Ruhamya’s graduation marked a continuation of a military tradition in the Kainerugaba family, with his father having attended the same academy decades earlier. The graduation ceremony was attended by General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who also trained at Sandhurst and graduated in 2000-URN.
