In a bid to improve access to health services, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) presidential candidate, has pledged to upgrade several health facilities in Arua City and Arua District. Museveni made the commitment while addressing thousands of supporters at a joint rally for Arua City and Arua District held at the Arua Golf Course, where he discussed the state of service delivery in the health sector.
He noted that although most sub-counties and wards in Arua have health facilities, some still lack the capacity to provide quality care. In Ayivu East Division, Museveni said his next government would upgrade Orivu Health Centre III to Health Centre IV status, emphasizing that the division currently lacks a higher-level facility to handle advanced medical cases.
Most health centres in Arua City still operate at Health Centre III level, having been established in former sub-counties that later became city wards. The only facility at Health Centre IV level is Oli Health Centre IV, which serves patients from as far as the Democratic Republic of Congo and South Sudan, in addition to the city’s growing population.
Local leaders have repeatedly appealed for Oli Health Centre IV to be elevated to district hospital status to match the increasing demand for health services. In Arua District, Museveni also pledged to upgrade Lazebu Health Centre II in Arivu Sub-county to Health Centre III, saying the move would significantly improve service delivery for residents.
The Arua rally was Museveni’s second of the day, following an earlier campaign at Aajai Stadium in Madi-Okollo District. He is expected to continue his campaign trail across the West Nile sub-region, including Maracha, Terego, Yumbe, and Adjumani districts.
