The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Presidential candidate, General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has assured residents of Madi Okollo district of equitable access to free universal education facilities across the district in his next term of office.
This assurance comes after Museveni observed that the 69 government primary schools in the district had been unevenly allocated to 32 parishes out of the total 46 parishes. He has promised to rectify this imbalance by ensuring fair distribution of existing primary schools and constructing five additional secondary schools in the remaining sub-counties.
Museveni said the move is aimed at ensuring full implementation of free universal education for all children in the country. He explained this during his presidential campaign rally at Ajai Playgrounds in Madi Okollo district. Museveni also committed to elevating Rhino Camp Health Center IV to a General District Hospital for Madi Okollo district, alongside upgrading lower Health Center IIIs across all 12 sub-counties.
The district currently has an even distribution of health centers, with the only pending health component being the district general hospital, which Museveni promised to prioritize in his next term. This announcement was made during the same presidential campaign rally at Ajai Playgrounds.
On economic empowerment, Museveni advised the electorate to intensify wealth creation at the household level while the government expedites broader development interventions. He referenced the 14 billion shillings disbursed to 13,796 beneficiaries of the Parish Development Model Initiative, youth livelihood programs, women and elderly empowerment schemes.
Museveni also emphasized that wealth creation should be prioritized as a household income-generation strategy. He cautioned against confusing wealth creation with government-led development, noting that each parish receives 100 million shillings annually for local initiatives.
On infrastructure, Museveni confirmed a series of new road projects to be tarmacked in Madi Okollo district during his next term. He listed timelines for the commencement of these projects between 2025 and 2026, assuring residents that the national roads maintenance program by the Ministry of Works and Transport would eliminate bad roads in the district.
