The Omusinga wa Rwenzururu, Charles Wesley Mumbere, has joined the nation in mourning the death of former Second Deputy Prime Minister Gen. Moses Ali, describing him as a patriotic leader whose commitment to peace and national unity should inspire current and future generations of leaders.
Gen. Ali, one of Uganda’s longest-serving political and military figures, died last week and is expected to be laid to rest later today at his ancestral home in Adjumani District. Throughout his decades in public service, he held several senior government positions, including Second Deputy Prime Minister, and was widely regarded as a key figure in Uganda’s post-conflict reconciliation and national development efforts.
Speaking from his palace in Kasese, Mumbere extended his condolences to the Government of Uganda, the people of Adjumani, and the bereaved family, saying the General’s death was part of God’s plan and a reminder of the inevitable cycle of life. He described the late Gen. Ali as a leader who consistently championed peace, unity and patriotism, urging leaders across the Rwenzori sub-region and the country to emulate his example of selfless service.
Beyond paying tribute to the fallen statesman, the Omusinga cautioned young people against engaging in risky behaviour, urging them to make responsible choices and avoid actions that expose them to HIV/AIDS, which he said continues to claim lives despite decades of awareness campaigns.
He advised the youth to remain disciplined and focus on building their future before indulging in lifestyles that could jeopardize their health and aspirations. Turning to land matters, Mumbere expressed concern over the continued sale of land by individuals without legitimate ownership rights. He said land remains a vital resource for the prosperity of the Rwenzururu Kingdom and called on his subjects to safeguard it from illegal transactions that could undermine future development.
In a separate address, the Omusinga thanked the Government of Uganda and the people of Rwenzururu for standing with the kingdom during the burial of Princess Lhubugha Muhindo Asinace Kibanzanga on July 10. He said the support demonstrated the cordial relationship between the kingdom and the government, as well as the unity of the Rwenzururu people during moments of grief-URN.
