Security officials in Mukono District have urged residents to remain calm and peaceful as the country heads into the election period, assuring the public that adequate security measures have been put in place to deal with any form of disorder.

The call was made by the Assistant Commissioner in charge of Mukono Municipality, Godfrey Mwogeza, while addressing congregants during national prayers held at Mt Lebanon Christian Centre Cathedral in Mukono Municipality, ahead of the elections scheduled for Thursday, the 15th.

Mwogeza revealed that security agencies have received intelligence reports indicating that some groups of youths are allegedly planning to disrupt the electoral process in certain parts of Mukono District. He emphasized that such acts will not be tolerated, noting that security forces are fully prepared and already deployed to ensure peace and order throughout the election period.

“As security personnel, we are fully prepared to handle any troublemakers. We have already held security meetings and deployed officers in all strategic areas to make sure that anyone attempting to disrupt the elections is dealt with,” Mwogeza said.

He encouraged voters to turn up in large numbers and exercise their democratic right without fear or intimidation.

“I urge you to go and vote without any intimidation. We have information that there are individuals planning to intimidate voters, but we want to assure you that you should vote freely and peacefully,” he added.

Mwogeza further advised residents to keep contact details of security officers in their respective areas and to immediately report any suspicious activity or disturbances to ensure a quick response.

Meanwhile, Bishop Dr. Samuel Lwandasa, the Senior Pastor of Mt Lebanon Churches in Uganda and President of the Greater Mukono Inter-Faith Forum, also appealed to the public to maintain peace before, during, and after the elections.

Dr. Lwandasa reminded citizens that voting should not be treated as a matter of life and death and cautioned them against being drawn into violence instigated by political actors.

“After voting, remain where you are. Politicians have places to run to, but ordinary citizens do not. There will be no war or bloodshed during this election or in our country. I encourage everyone to perform their civic duty by voting, but also to maintain peace,” Dr. Lwandasa said.

He further advised residents to avoid provoking or confronting security personnel, urging them instead to cooperate and allow officers to carry out their responsibilities.

David Kigozi, a resident of Namuyenje and a member of the security agencies, appealed to the people of Mukono District and Ugandans at large to prioritize peace during the election period.

Kigozi emphasized that personal security begins with individual responsibility, noting that while people may hold different political opinions, peace should always come first.

“Everyone has the right to vote for a candidate of their choice. However, people should also ensure that their homes are well secured, because criminals may take advantage of this period to carry out robberies,” he warned.

Pastor Rev. Dr. Yongdoo Kim, President of Holy Fire Ministries, together with his wife, Pastor Hyunja Kang, has urged the youth to make wise and purposeful use of their energy while they are still young.

He emphasized that youth is a critical season for growth, discipline, and productivity. They encouraged young people to invest their strength and talents in activities that will move them forward in life, uplift their nation, and strengthen the body of Christ.

“The energy of youth is a gift from God,” Pastor Rev. Dr. Kim said. “It must be used intentionally—through learning, service, and hard work—so that it produces lasting impact for individuals, the church, and society at large.”

Pastor Hyunja Kang echoed this message, stressing that young people should see themselves as agents of positive change. She highlighted the importance of responsibility, perseverance, and a strong work ethic, noting that these values are essential for both spiritual maturity and national development.

The couple also cautioned against a mindset of constant dependency. They warned young people not to focus solely on receiving help at every moment, but instead to cultivate diligence and self-reliance. According to them, consistent hard work and personal responsibility are key factors in breaking cycles of poverty and stagnation.

“Help can come,” Pastor Kang noted, “but a life built only on waiting for assistance limits growth. Hard work opens doors, builds character, and creates opportunities.”

The message resonated strongly with attendees, many of whom described the teaching as timely and challenging. By combining spiritual guidance with practical life principles, Holy Fire Ministries continues to inspire young people to live purpose-driven lives that honor God while contributing meaningfully to their communities and nations.

Uganda is set to conduct elections for the national leader and Members of Parliament, including the Woman Member of Parliament and the Youth Representative to Parliament, on Saturday, the 15th.

Security agencies and religious leaders have reiterated their commitment to ensuring a peaceful and orderly electoral process, calling on the public to remain vigilant, law-abiding, and united during this critical period.
