More than 1000 Candidates Fail Mock Examinations in Amolatar

A total of 1,427 Primary Seven candidates in Amolatar District have failed the 2026 mock examinations, accounting for 51.1 per cent of the 2,796 learners who sat for the assessment. The results show that only 28 candidates attained Division One, with 27 coming from private schools and only one from a government school.

A total of 356 candidates passed in Division Two, while 369 attained Division Three. Another 615 candidates were placed in Division Four, while 1,427 were ungraded in Division U. Eighty registered candidates did not sit the examinations, while one candidate was not graded.

James Tita, the Amolatar Deputy Inspector of Schools, attributed the poor performance largely to learners’ difficulties in understanding and interpreting examination questions. Tita said the challenge requires urgent attention ahead of the final Primary Leaving Examinations, which kick off on October 30, 2026.

Tita identified Amolatar Primary School, Otira Primary School, Alemere Demonstration School, Muntu Primary School and Abwong Primary School among the fairly performing government-aided schools in the district. He, however, listed Aguludia Primary School, Atomoro, Abarikori, Agwingiri and Wabinua Primary School among the poorly performing government schools.

Among the best-performing private schools were Green Valley Primary School, Global Leaders Primary School, Upland Primary School and Destiny Nursery and Primary School, which participated in the examinations for the first time.

Tita urged teachers to change their teaching approaches and align them with the demands of the competency-based curriculum.

Peter Obote, the Amolatar District Education Officer, called on education stakeholders to work together to address the challenges reflected in the mock examination results and improve performance in the national examinations.

Speaking after the release of the results, James Odongo, who represented the Chief Administrative Officer, advised schools to administer mock examinations early enough to allow teachers and learners sufficient time to identify and address weaknesses before the final examinations.

Meanwhile, Amolatar District Vice Chairperson Margaret Olul urged teachers not to be discouraged by the poor results, saying there is still time to improve the learners’ performance before the final examinations.

The district has 2,875 registered Primary Seven candidates in 2026, including 1,989 Universal Primary Education (UPE) candidates and 886 non-UPE candidates. The number of registered candidates has increased from 2,505 in 2025 to 2,875 this year, representing an increase of 370 candidates-URN.
