Balam Barugahare, the minister of local government, has ordered the management of Yalelo Fish Vending Company to halt its operation in Busia town following several complaints from traders.
It’s reported that the management of Yalelo Fish Company has been operating in Busia town for the last three years at Busia Custom which is an illegal place for fish business and allegedly didn’t clearly pay the Municipal council license. The fish mongers are demanding that all the fish traders get back into the main market or else quit Busia town so that there will be a trade order.
Johnon Wafuba, the Buia deputy town clerk said that the Municipal council had earlier resolved to suspend their operations unless they re-locate their shop and take to the main market. They tried to put a closure seal on the Yalelo Fish shop, but the management stubbornly broke the seal.
In his address during the anti-corruption meeting held at Busia district headquarters, Barugahare, the minister of local government, ordered the management of Yalelo to halt their business of fish vending until further notice.
Nassar Mulumba, a fishmonger in Busia main market said that ever since Yalelo Fish Company started its illegal operations at Busia Customs, they are no longer getting business at the main market. He demanded to know why companies that don’t pay taxes are allowed to operate yet they pay monthly revenue in the market.
Kenyatta Wanjala, the chairperson of Busia fish venders at Busia main market said that they want Yalelo to leave Busia town or else they also stop paying revenue in the market and Municipal council allow fish business to take place in the town streets.
Hassan Sekyette, another trader said that Yalelo Fish Company has blocked their clients from Kenya to access the main market. They are counting losses in the market.
Betty Ofuro Nekesa, a fish vender, asked the minister of local government Balam Barugahare to totally close the Yalelo Fish Company in Busia so that the local venders can fully get back to business.
A Yalelo Fish Company staff anonymously said that they are not ready to close businesses as they have international clients and are ready to comply with all the necessities at the Municipal council. Minister Balam tasked Yalelo Fish Company to sell off the fish products they have in their store and close their stores with immediate effect-URN.
