Suspected Ebola Case Reported in Kapchorwa District

A manhunt has been launched in Budaka District after a 58-year-old man was severely hacked with a panga in an attempted murder attack on Tuesday evening. The incident occurred at around 7:00 p.m. in Bukaligwoko Village, Nanzala Parish, Kameruka Sub-county, and was reported by LC1 Chairperson Moses Mpyangu, 65.

The victim, Peter Maiso Supulemu, 58, was in his kitchen with his wife, Ronina Naikesa, when one of the suspects, Moses Mugombesya, called him outside. According to police, Mugombesya told the victim he had been “sent to finish the deal” and ordered him not to run or raise an alarm, threatening to shoot him.

Police say Mugombesya then instructed a second suspect, Stephano Nalenyo, to hand him a panga before he began hacking the victim on the head. The accomplice reportedly stood nearby during the attack. The victim’s wife raised an alarm, attracting neighbours Ivan and co-wife Sylvia Nankoma, prompting the attackers to flee with the weapon, leaving Maiso unconscious in a pool of blood.

He was rushed to Mbale Referral Hospital, where he is receiving treatment in critical condition after sustaining multiple deep cuts to the head and face. The case has been registered under Budaka CRB 237/2026. Wilfred Kyempasa, Public Relations Officer for Bukedi North Region, said inquiries are ongoing and efforts are underway to trace and arrest the two suspects-URN.
