The race for the Maganjo B Zone LC1 chairperson seat has been thrown into uncertainty following the death of the area’s longtime local leader, Hajji Jaberi Musoke, just days after he was nominated to seek another term. Hajji Jaberi, who had served as LC1 chairperson of Maganjo B Zone in Nabweru Sub-county, Nansana Municipality, for more than three decades, died on Monday evening after reportedly suffering a cardiac arrest.

According to sources close to the family, he was rushed to the Uganda Heart Institute, where he was pronounced dead. Only three days earlier, Hajji Jaberi had been officially nominated on the National Resistance Movement (NRM) ticket to contest in the forthcoming Local Council elections. His nomination was marked by jubilant celebrations as supporters turned up in large numbers to accompany him through the exercise, expressing confidence in his bid for another term.

In the days leading up to his death, Hajji Jaberi had been mobilizing residents to rehabilitate roads in Kagoma and Maganjo as part of community improvement efforts during the election period. The works included grading roads and spreading murram on sections that had become difficult to pass.

His sudden death has shocked residents and NRM supporters, many of whom had expected the veteran local leader to extend his more than 30 years of service to the community. The death also creates a vacancy in the NRM’s race for the Maganjo B Zone LC1 chairperson seat ahead of the elections. Burial arrangements are underway, and Hajji Jaberi will be laid to rest at his ancestral home in Busiika, Luweero District-URN.
