The Luwero Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Richard Bwabye, has ordered police to investigate the destruction of a banana plantation in Janda village, Ziroobwe Sub-County, amid suspicions of a land dispute.
The three-acre plantation, owned by Steven Musoke, a journalist with Vision Group, was attacked on Tuesday night by unknown individuals believed to be more than two in number. Musoke was away in Kampala on work duties, leaving relatives to manage the farm.
Robina Nabona, Musoke’s maternal aunt, told Uganda Radio Network (URN) that she was awakened by the sound of banana plants being cut. Alarmed, she alerted her son, Kinene, but advised him to peep through the window instead of opening it, fearing they could be harmed if spotted by the intruders.
The two witnessed widespread destruction in the plantation. Steven Musoke said he was informed about the invasion via a phone call from Nabona around 2 a.m., and he is now demanding justice for the loss.
In response, RDC Bwabye told URN that he has directed officers at Ziroobwe Police Station to immediately investigate and submit a report within a few days. He emphasized that any individuals found guilty of damaging property will be charged accordingly.
The motive behind the destruction remains unclear, but early indications suggest it may be connected to a land conflict-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
