Lira Regional Referral Hospital (LRRH) has temporarily closed its main operating theater for renovation and minor repairs.
The theatre floor was severely damaged over time, making it unsafe for operations.
Dr. Andrew Odur, the Acting Hospital Director, issued a statement to all District Health Officers (DHOs) in the region saying the hospital secured funds to apply terrazzo to the entire floor of the theater space. This exercise is expected to end by 30th April, 2025.
“During this period, we encourage you to handle the surgical needs within your respective districts, especially the maternal and child health-related emergencies.”
Peter Okello Odeke, the Principal Hospital Administrator, said that although the main theater is closed, minor operations are being conducted in other theaters at the hospital.
He further explained that reverse referrals will be done in case of emergencies in the lower health facilities.
Lira regional referral hospital, which serves a population of over 2.5 million people, has old buildings constructed in 1920, which require renovation-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
