Lawyers representing the Town Clerk of Namisindwa Town Council, Edimu Wesonga, have written to SBC/Open Gate FM demanding recordings and transcripts of a political talk show following alleged defamatory remarks made by Bubulo East MP John Musila.
In a July 13, 2026, letter, Sanywa Wabwire and Co. Advocates requested copies of the recordings and written transcripts of the Itolondo radio programme aired on July 11 and July 18, 2026, between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. The programme was hosted by Emma Watundu.
“We hereby write to formally request access to a copy of the recordings and written transcripts for the Itolondo radio talk show programme broadcast on the 11th and 18th days of July 2026, aired from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., hosted by Emma Watundu,” the lawyers wrote. The law firm said it was acting on behalf of Wesonga, whom it described as “the Town Clerk of Namisindwa Town Council, a lawyer, public servant and reputable member of the public.”
The move follows a confrontation between Wesonga and Musila during a public baraza meeting held at Magale Town Council last week. The meeting had been convened by the Minister for Local Government, Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi, following his inspection of government projects in Namisindwa District.
During the meeting, Musila questioned why the Namisindwa Chief Administrative Officer, Joseph Lomongin, had reinstated Wesonga on the district payroll, claiming the town clerk had previously been removed because he allegedly lacked the required academic qualifications and possessed only a Senior Four certificate. The allegations prompted a heated exchange between the two officials before security personnel and Minister Barugahara intervened to restore calm.
Wesonga presented what he said were his academic documents to the minister, maintaining that they were genuine. Uganda Radio Network has not independently verified the authenticity of the documents. Speaking to Uganda Radio Network on Thursday, Musila said he had not officially received the lawyers’ letter but had no objection to any legal action.
“I have not yet seen that letter officially. But let him go ahead. On the radio I never mentioned anyone’s name, but if he is the victim, let him go ahead,” Musila said. This is not the first time the legislator has faced complaints over comments made on radio.
Earlier this year, George Sakwa, who contested for the Bubulo East parliamentary seat, also sought recordings from Elgon FM through his lawyers before filing a defamation suit against Musila over remarks allegedly made on the station’s Baraza political talk show-URN.
