A small group of MPs from Lango region have been meeting to discuss how to increase the influence of their homeland in the affairs of Uganda after the 2026 elections has been concluded.
These MPs have come up with a strategy to lobby extensively inside the ruling NRM party to ensure that they get more positions in government, civil service, security, judiciary and also in Parliament where they need to chair more committees, join the parliamentary commission and also grab the speakership or the deputy position after 2026.
They say that Museveni is becoming old which makes his exit from the presidency imminent and inevitable.
On the speakership post or that of Deputy, the Langis are pushing their MPs to work hard to ensure that either the government chief whip Hamson Obua or Oyam MP Betty Amongin stands.
The two are accepted by the MPs from Lango and those political upstarts likely to win MP Seats to join the 12th Parliament as senior, experienced and popular enough to either grab the position of speaker or deputy speaker.
In the alternative that Museveni convinces them to pull out for either Tayebwa or Anita Among, the Lango MPs are convinced that their candidate who can either be Obua or Amongin will have raised their political stature and profile to end up with some other juicy cabinet position from Museveni which may be prime minister or deputy premier.
The Langis are also badly scheming for the position of NRM regional vice chairperson for northern Uganda which was for the late Jacob Oulanyah inside CEC. Their son Sam Engola used to occupy this position until when he lost it to Oulanyah in party elections of 2020. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
