Kyagulanyi Shuns Mpuuga Masaka Rivals; Shopping for better Candidate Because He Says ‘Mpuuga is Too Strong for Them’

Credible information reaching our news desk shows that Bobi Wine has registered his apprehension and unwillingness to endorse the two NUP foot soldiers who had stepped forward to take on Mathias Mpuuga for Nyendo-Mukungwe MP Seat come 2026.

The two are Councillor Alice Nannungi and Makerere University Assistant Bursar Sebina Gyaviira. Reliable sources close to the NUP decision-making processes have revealed that Bobi Wine says he has taken time assessing the two foot soldiers and his conclusion is that none of them can manage to defeat a smart and experienced politician like Mpuuga.

“He is very afraid and paranoid about Mathias Mpuuga because his win in 2026 to retain the Nyendo-Mukungwe MP Seat will be a personal defeat to him as Party President. He is more preoccupied with ensuring the Mpuuga defeat in 2026 than anything else. He fears that the media headlines will portray him as a political failure should Mpuuga succeed in securing reelection. Because he fears that political embarrassment, Bobi Wine doesn’t want to gimble by fronting weak candidates against Mpuuga,” one Kavule source revealed adding that Bobi Wine has insisted the party should disregard Sebina and Nannungi and instead continue shopping for a more formidable and more appropriate candidate to carry the party flag against Mathias Mpuuga.

That Bobi Wine recently spoke to two top NUP party leaders immediately after Sebina had just left his office and remarked as follows: “I’m beginning to realise how the job I’m currently holding in NUP isn’t an easy one. Imagine that guy Sebina wants to become an MP and all his hopes are in me as Bobi Wine yet its them who live in Masaka. I have interacted with him several times but the way I see, his demeanour and capacity can’t defeat Mathias Mpuuga and we risk ruining our brand and getting ourselves politically embarrassed if we fronted him against the Oweekitibwa.”

In the subsequent interaction, it was agreed that both Sebina and Nannungi be advised to find somewhere else to stand or some other little positions within Masaka City and not against Mathias Mpuuga who Bobi Wine considers to be too formidable for them to manage. He has made it clear that however much money bags Sebina keeps sinking money in party activities, he will never secure his endorsement to take on Mpuuga because he is too amateurish and undeserving.

Sources say Bobi Wine believes it will be better not to front candidates at all than fronting weaklings who Mpuuga will have for dinner and thereby bringing disrepute to the NUP brand. That in hating Mathias Mpuuga to such an extent, Bobi Wine is partly being incited by self-seekers namely Betty Nambooze and Muwanga Kivumbi who keep bringing him rumors all aimed at exaggerating the Mpuuga threat and in the process secure their meal card and reelection in 2026.

“Muwanga Kivumbi has become a sycophant par excellence to the extent that even Joel Senyonyi sometimes feels insecure in his LoP job. Muwanga is always at Magere delivering rumors to Bobi about whatever negative thing MPs say about him. He has reduced himself to levels we never imagined while sacrificing their decades long friendship with Mathias Mpuuga.”

The source added: “One time Bobi Wine summoned Joel Ssenyonyi and blasted him for failing to adequately have his ears on the ground. He asked him stuff Muwanga had leaked to him about Mpuuga’s plots at Parliament and Joel wasn’t aware of many of these things. Bobi always says Joel has to rely on him for intelligence about his work place because he repeatedly gets updated by his right hand man and new found sycophant Muwanga Kivumbi.” Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
