Kitgum General Hospital has received medical supplies valued at 182 million shillings from the National Medical Stores (NMS). The consignments, which include essential drugs, sundries, and other critical items, are intended for the first circle (July and August) of the 2025/2026 financial year.
According to Thomas Ojok, the hospital’s senior administrator, the facility had previously received only 26 percent of the 127 million shillings required per cycle. “With the latest delivery, the hospital has received a substantial increase in medical supplies, reaching over 182 million shillings. The 55 million shilling excess was the balance for the last circle, which the facility received less, and this will go a long way in addressing the pressing medical needs of patients,” Ojok said.
He further revealed that the supplies include program drugs for HIV, tuberculosis, and malaria, emergency medicines for sickle cell treatment, and essential medical items such as gloves and syringes. “This delivery is expected to improve the hospital’s ability to provide quality healthcare services to patients, particularly those suffering from chronic illnesses,” Ojok explained.
Komakech Oyo, Kitgum Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC), urged health workers to make proper use of the supplies, emphasizing the government’s commitment to health service delivery. Meanwhile, Arwai Christopher Obol, Kitgum District Chairperson, cautioned health workers against misusing government-supplied drugs and stressed the importance of accountability and proper handling.
“With a catchment area that includes Kitgum, Lamwo, Pader, Karenga, and Agago districts, as well as refugees from South Sudan, the hospital plays a critical role in providing healthcare services to the local community. The medical supplies received will undoubtedly make a significant difference in the lives of patients seeking treatment at the hospital,” Obol said.
