A suspected domestic dispute has prompted a primary school teacher in Katakwi District to take his own life. The deceased has been identified as Sam Koluo, 57, a teacher at Olupe Primary School and a resident of Orisai Village, Amusia Parish, Amusia Sub-county in Toroma County.
According to preliminary information, Koluo is suspected to have taken his own life on Sunday night following a disagreement with his wife over a bicycle he reportedly used to travel to work in Ngariam. Residents discovered his lifeless body hanging from a tamarind tree within his compound on Monday morning, sending shockwaves through the community.
His wife, Perpetua Amule, is said to have taken the bicycle earlier in the day to grind groundnuts before proceeding to Toroma Trading Centre. It is alleged that the delay in returning the bicycle sparked a domestic disagreement.
Isaac Omagor, the LCIII Chairperson of Amusia Sub-county, confirmed the incident, describing it as the first suspected suicide recorded in the sub-county in more than two decades.
Family members said Koluo left the house at around 8:00 p.m. on Sunday after reportedly writing a note whose contents had not yet been disclosed. They later discovered his body hanging outside the home.
Relatives told Uganda Radio Network that the couple had experienced domestic misunderstandings before the incident. Police had not yet issued an official statement on the incident by the time of filing this report, although investigations are expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the death-URN.
