The High Court in Kasese has acquitted six individuals who had been charged with murder and aggravated robbery, citing a lack of sufficient evidence to prove their guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

Allan Bwambale, Timona Muhindo, Obed Muhindo, Noel Masereka, and Joackim Bwambale had been accused of killing Kyogha Parish LCII Chairperson Gerald Bwambale during a robbery at his home in Bwera Sub-county. The incident occurred on June 3, 2025.

However, Justice Lawrence Tweyanze dismissed all charges against them, saying that the prosecution’s evidence was largely circumstantial and contained gaps in the chain of custody of key exhibits, including the firearm used in the crime.

The court ruled that these inconsistencies created reasonable doubt, preventing a conviction. Relatives of the accused expressed relief and joy at the verdict.

In a separate ruling, the same court acquitted 20-year-old Brighton Akandwanaho, who was charged with the stabbing death of Eliphaz Kambale during a fight at Vegas Bar and Lodge in Kasese District on December 24, 2024.

The judge noted that contradictory witness testimonies undermined the prosecution’s case, and the court could not establish Akandwanaho’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. The acquittals mean that all six suspects, who had been detained for months awaiting trial, are now free-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
