A joint security operation in Masaka has successfully rescued Mark Ssenkumba, a 28-year-old man who had been allegedly kidnapped by unidentified thugs.

Ssenkumba went missing on Friday evening, and his captors reportedly demanded a ransom of 3 million shillings from his family.

Twaha Kasirye, the Greater Masaka Regional Police Spokesperson, confirmed that security teams tracked Ssenkumba to a thick swamp along the Kampala-Masaka highway in Mpigi District.

Kasirye noted that the captors fled as the security teams closed in, leaving Ssenkumba behind. He has since recorded a statement detailing his abduction and was handed over to his family.

Kasirye added that investigators have gathered significant clues to aid in the pursuit of the kidnappers. Ssenkumba, who is currently receiving treatment at Masaka Regional Referral Hospital, narrated his harrowing experience.

He said he was intercepted in Nyendo Township during an evening walk by two men in civilian clothes.  “They wrestled me to the ground, blindfolded me, and threw me into a car,” Ssenkumba recounted.
