The NUP secretary general David Lewis Rubongoya on Saturday was hosted on capital gang along with Semujju Nganda and Lydia Wanyoto.
During the program, Nganda and Rubongoya demonstrated how muslims and Baganda have suffered and have been the most targeted in the ongoing kidnapping operations and enforced disappearances of people in Uganda as government supporters work towards purging the country of actors with capacity to politically and militarily threaten the veteran leader from Rwakitura’s grip on the Presidency.
Rubongoya, who has been to many detention centers, claimed that most of the people being confined for years and tortured inside safe houses are Muslims and Baganda. Semujju Nganda corraborated this and said much more.
Yet away from this serious stuff, there was also plenty of bunter-some moments during the same radio talk show. One of these came when the moderator Oscar Semweya Musoke joked while demanding to know why the day’s guest Rubongoya chose to sit where long-time panelist Ofwono Opondo, who is also the government spokesman, sits always.
Reciprocating the joke, Rubongoya said this is because NUP is certain about taking power some day immediately replacing Ofwono Opondo’s group. He went on to suggest that, by the way, he can effectively replace Ofwono Opondo on the show and become an even more productive and impactful panelist.
The truth of the matter is that Opondo, who has been on the gang for more than 15 years, is these days infrequent on the show as he is always away either travelling the globe or in his ancestral home in Mulanda-Tororo district supervising his crop and livestock farming activities.
The hillarious prospect of Rubongoya replacing Opondo on the capital gang as a panelist caused prolonged laughter and clearly its not one that is entirely impossible.Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
