By KT Reporter

Hundreds of aspirants are jostling for the National Unity Platform-NUP tickets for the various local government leadership positions as the party begins the search for candidates in the greater Masaka sub-region.

‎‎The party’s Electoral Management Committee has convened at Bwala Social Centre in Masaka City to conduct vetting of candidates from the nine districts of the sub-region.

‎‎Harriett Chemutai, the NUP EMC Chairperson, indicates that after their vetting exercises for Parliamentary candidates at the party headquarters in Kampala, they have now moved out to regions to identify potential candidates and reduce the anxiety among their supporters.

‎‎She says they also intend to reconcile some aspirants who are competing for the same position, as a way of forging harmony ahead of the general election.

‎‎John Mary Ssebuwuufu, the NUP Electoral Commissioner in charge of the Central Region, indicates that the process is going to help them identify the most qualified candidates for local government positions.

‎‎According to him, the process is going to enable the committee to consolidate the party’s support base at the grassroots level, indicating that after the process, the candidates are going to serve as mobilisation agents.
