Christopher Aine, the Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Hoima, secured police bond as investigations continue into allegations of assault and malicious damage to a mobile phone.
Julius Hakiza, the Albertine Region Police spokesperson, told Uganda Radio Network (URN) in an interview on Thursday evening that Aine was released on Wednesday evening after spending a night in custody at Hoima Central Police Station.
Hakiza said the case file had been transferred to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) headquarters in Kampala following a directive to police to submit it there.
He said investigations were still ongoing despite Aine’s release. Aine was arrested on Tuesday following a complaint by Henry Byabazaire, who alleges that the deputy RDC assaulted him on June 9, 2026, at about 7:30 pm.
Byabazaire reportedly told police that the alleged assault occurred in the office of the Officer in Charge of the Criminal Investigations Directorate (OC-CID) at Hoima Central Police Station.
Police had been investigating the complaint before arresting Aine on Tuesday and detaining him at the same station.
Investigators had initially submitted the case file to the Resident State Attorney for legal advice. However, the file was returned with instructions to record a statement from Aine. Detectives recorded his statement on Tuesday as part of the ongoing inquiries. Police have not disclosed further details about the alleged assault or the confrontation between the two men-URN.
