Kampala senior lawyer Kenneth Paul Kakande has continued saying no to Kyagulanyi’s pressure to have him take on Busiro east MP Medard Segona who is his old friend since their days in Zambogo and UYD.
Counsel Kakande has instead demanded to be spondored and endorsed by Kyagulanyi to bear the NUP flag for Nakawa east since Ronald Balomwezo is quiting.
Kakande, a veteran of opposition politics since the days of UYD, has always been a man of Nakawa where he used to stand against NRM minister Fred Ruhindi. He has been eyeing the Nakawa seat since the days of 2001 under the Hajji Alagidde slogan.
He was always a Seya Nasser Sebaggala man which makes him more justified to seek Nakawa east MP seat than Alex Waisswa Mufumbiro, the Musoga boy, who Kyagulanyi is fronting. Kyagulanyi wants to reward Waisswa because he is his loyalist even when the ground has so far refused to buy him.
But Waisswa has faced stiff resistance so far with some of the area foot soldiers suggesting that he stands in his home place of Busoga.
One of them recently said “Waisswa has been rejected by NUP structures on the ground and he doesn’t have any of the cards that win elections in a place like Nakawa east. You need solidarity and to be wholeheartddly accepted by NUP vote winners in Nakawa, money and a lot of it plus politics of moderation so that key decision makers in NRM can accept or tolerate having you around as MP for a sensitive constituency like Nakawa.”
This particular foot soldier explained that Waisswa simply doesn’t have any of the cards that are game changers for Nakawa.
Kakande in 2021 prepared to run for Nakawa and fell under Nakawa east when the constituency was split up.
In west he faced Joel Ssenyonyi as an independent after being mistreated in NUP primaries. His supporters feel that now is the best time for Kyagulanyi to rehabilitate Kakande from the bitter wounds of 2021 by annointing him for Nakawa east as opposed to sending him to Segona’s Busiro east, Stephen Sserubulwa’s Luzira municipality or even Amos Lugoloobi’s Ntenjeru north in Kayunga.
He considers Nakawa to be his political home because its where he has been based since his days as UYD vice president. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
